Why Does The Government Needs More Taxes?

Author, revolutionary, and one of our nation’s Founding Fathers, Thomas Paine once said “When a government is just, taxes are few.”

Paine warned of largess in government and excessive taxes. In 2007, more than 200 years later, Americans surrendered nearly 30% of their income to federal and state governments. I would venture this tax rate is not what Paine and many of the Founding Fathers had in mind.

As Americans work harder to make ends meet, we have one more bill to pay in April – our federal taxes.

With high unemployment and so many middle class families struggling just to get by in today’s economy, the majority party in Congress wants you to pay for bigger government. During this time of economic uncertainty, the number one priority for Congress should instead be to create jobs and strengthen the economy, not grow government and increase taxes on Americans.

What are Americans getting out of Washington today? Record spending, deficits, and debt.

The Administration’s budget for fiscal year 2011 pushes spending to a new record, widens the deficit, and raises taxes by $1.8 trillion through 2020. While Nevadans struggle to find work, the federal government has grown unchecked.

The majority party has increased taxes by more than $670 billion just this Congress. Recently, the head of President Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board suggested a new, value added tax on everything we purchase as a good way to pay for record debt created by this Administration. This new tax would be in addition to all of the other taxes we already pay.

I oppose any new taxes or tax increases, including this new value added tax.

The first step to strengthening our economy is for Congress to embrace fiscal responsibility. Washington does not have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

Growing the size of government, increasing taxes, and discouraging investment is the opposite of what our economy and working families in Nevada need.

Congress should instead consider proposals that reduce spending, lower the deficit, and provide permanent relief for all taxpayers.

A study conducted at the Tax Policy Center found that taxes would need to increase by nearly 40 percent to reduce the deficit to 3 percent of our gross domestic product by 2015, a goal set by the Obama administration.

That tax boost would mean the lowest income tax rate would jump from 10 to nearly 14 percent, and the top rate from 35 to 48 percent.

Even if the President only raised taxes on couples making $250,000 a year and individuals making more than $200,000, the top two income tax rates would more than double to get the deficit down to 3 percent of GDP.

Even under these scenarios, our nation would not come close to eliminating the deficit.

This study underscores the fact that our government’s biggest problem is spending, not revenue.

Unfortunately, there are those who believe that reckless spending is necessary to usher in a new era of tax increases. If a strong economy is truly the goal of this Administration and Congress, then we must get federal spending under control, keep taxes low, and allow businesses to grow.

Even with the protests on tax day in the past, we should all take a moment to evaluate how the government spends our money and why it is asking for more.

Agents of Incompetence: BATFE Has Seized BB Guns

It was only a month ago that a bizarre story broke in the Pacific Northwest, as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers trumpeted their seizure of what they claimed were more than two dozen machine guns disguised as toys.

The problem with the CBP claim was that the items seized were 16 WE TTI (WE Tech) M4A1 and 14 WE TTI (WE Tech) M4 CQBR gas blowback Airsoft rifles that shoot plastic BBs.

They really were toys.

But instead of admitting they can’t tell a toy gun from a real one, CBP turned these Airsoft rifles over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), and the agency agreed that these pot-metal made, plastic BB-shooting plinkers were honest-to-God firearms.

To put it mildly, things got interesting.

In short, multiple experts examined the dubious BATFE claim and found that the WE Tech rifles confiscated by the CBP and slated for destruction by the BATFE cannot be converted to machine guns, or any other kind of working firearm.

Obama’s Economic Narrative Doesn’t Match The Reality of Our Unemployment Problem

Even as Obama touts his efforts to put more Americans to work, he faces a public seeing through his lies, knowing that his socialist policies will not work and are actually increasing the problem.

Obama is campaigning in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri trying to convince voters that his economic policies are working, but Americans are waking up to Obama’s deceptions. Unless we change the Congress in November, our high unemployment rate will remain at painfully high levels for years.

The unemployment rate has held steady at 9.7 percent for the past three months, and 15 million Americans remain out of work. By the White House’s own estimates, as well as those of many independent economists, that rate isn’t expected to fluctuate more than a few tenths of a percent through the end of 2010.

That’s a far different reality than what this incompetent administration predicted last year, when Obama rallied support for the $787 billion massive spending “pay back political favors” package. Before the bill was passed, the White House said the massive infusion of taxpayer money would keep the unemployment rate from topping 8 percent. After the massive spending bill passed, the administration revised those estimates, saying the recession proved to be worse than it expected. Do you think you were lied to?

Polls suggest that Obama and his socialist party are increasingly vulnerable on the economy. Democrats and Republicans each have the confidence of 44 percent of people for handling the economy, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll conducted this month. The Democrats had a 9-point advantage just four months ago and have held an edge since AP polls began asking about the issue in 2006. But the American voters are starting to catch on to the Democrats lies.

Oklahoma City Reality Check

You probably never saw this.

Two big bombs were found INSIDE the Oklahoma City federal building and defused.

These clips ran on local news live…and were never broadcast again.

There is no way a truck bomb regardless of size could have done the damage that was done to that building.

The government’s story is a complete lie and they know it.

The “terrorism expert” and the end of this clip Dr. Randall Heather was never seen on TV again and can’t be found on Google (except in relation to this appearance.)

Rather than test the site to assess the exact composition of the bomb material as Dr. Heather and USAF General Partin (ret) recommended, the building was demolished and all the wreckage was removed to a fenced in landfill and buried.

No tests were ever done.

Not Your Typical CCW Class in Virginia

It never ceases to amaze me how many shooters will spend beaucoup money on tactical super-retention thigh holsters and war belts and plate carriers and dump pouches and so forth… when they work in an office building and never put any of that stuff on outside of a training venue. But these same people never take the time to learn and practice with their everyday CCW gear.

My good friend Dave teaches a class he calls Concealed & Off-Duty Pistol once or twice a year in South Hill, VA. The class covers — now get this! — how to carry a handgun concealed. Yes, crazy concept. Obviously, it only appeals to those who are more concerned with their everyday preparedness than with learning what to do when the Alien Communist Zombie United Nations “Red Dawn” scenario comes true.

Knowing Dave’s background and experience, I signed up for his very first C&OD class in 2008. Most of my fellow students had literally hundreds of hours of prior firearms training, yet most of them had never used a concealed carry holster in a class! Whether it was the drone from Sector 7-G or the IT guru or the carpenter, these were guys who carried concealed pistols every single day but had never taken the time to learn about carrying a concealed pistol every day.
